Where my food came from.

Homemade chili is one of my favorite meals. To make homemade chili I use ground beef, one can of kidney beans, one can of diced tomatoes, two packs of chili seasoning, and white rice. The ground beef was purchased from a local supermarket along with the kidney beans, diced tomatoes, chili seasoning, and the white rice. I researched where kidney beans originated from and found out that kidney beans originally came from Central and South America. Then they made their way to Mexico a couple of thousand years later and then they made their way to the United States. Then I researched where tomatoes came from and I found out that they were originally grown in Central and South America. Then a couple of years later they made their way to America to be grown. When I researched on where white rice originated from Asia.
After I researched where some of my ingredients came from I was shocked. This assignment shocked me, because I had never realized where my food comes from. I never realized that some of my ingredients come from half way across the world. I guess I just thought that it magically appeared or that it was always grown or produced locally or at least somewhere in the United States. Before this assignment it never really crossed my mind where my food came from, but now when I go to buy something, the question “Where did this come from?” or “Where did this originate from?” is constantly crossing my mind. Also after looking at my researched that I had done I realized that some of my ingredients had originated from the same area and now they are grown or produced in the same area as well. This assignment has made think about the history and current status on where my ingredients are from and produced.
